Swaps and exchanges
Over the
years that I have owned PUW6F, I have frequently been offered all manner of
swaps and deals in exchange for the car.
Some of these
‘swaps’ I dare not put down in writing and with a few of them it did not mean
me losing the car…..
Terry Windle
the ex-sidecar racer and frame builder offered his nearly new mustard-yellow
Jaguar XJ6 as a direct swap for the car in 1976. Yellow was not my colour.
Ali Taefi an
Iranian postgraduate student offered his brand new metallic blue Datsun 260Z in
1979. As part of the deal he also offered to find me ‘a decent wife’ who would
also be wealthy. The ‘decent wife’ sounded attractive, but I guess I didn't
need the money bad enough.
In 1980 the owner
of the Victoria Wine Bar on Ecclesall Road offered to swap me his considerably newer gold coloured
Rolls Royce Silver Cloud for the car. I could not imagine myself in such an old
man’s car.
Clearly I
resisted the last three examples and continue to look after the old girl.
